In God’s Country: Barker Dam in the Late Afternoon, Joshua Tree National Park, CA This is probably my favorite spot in the park. I spent hours there just sitting on a bolder staring into the water. I went there in the late afternoon and in the early morning hours and had the lake more or less to myself, I only had to share the place with a few ducks, which flew in from somewhere and landed with a splash. Here’s a larger view. I had quite a few funny or amazing encounters in the park, but no photos of them I am afraid. On the way back to the parking lot I watched a bunny rolling in the dirt right in front of me… it was so funny. He dug in the sand, then threw himself right into it, rolled around a bit, got up, dug a bit more, and back into the sand he went… I guess that’s how these guys cool down in the heat, the soil must be getting cool(er) once you start digging.
